HUG Archery: Raising Arrows with Purpose

Welcome to HUG Archery — our largest, liveliest, and let’s just say most bullseye-filled co-op offering yet.

Built by Coach Jimmy (archer extraordinaire and hunter) and his amazing wife (aka the woman behind the quiver), this club was born from passion, prayer, and years of pulling strings — literal and figurative. Jimmy has been shooting since before he could spell “compound bow,” and his aim hasn’t missed since.

Credentials? Let’s Just Say He’s Sharp

Coach Jimmy recently took home the belt buckle at the Sunrise Shoot Out — one of Southern Arizona’s toughest "unknown" tournaments — and still holds the World Record Velvet Coues Deer Harvest with a bow and with no guide.

Beyond trophies and titles, he’s a gifted guide, hunter, and mentor who sees archery as both sport and stewardship.

What to Expect:

Where We Shoot:

We’re proud to shoot right here at home — we built our own private archery range last year so our students can train in a safe, professional, and welcoming environment.

When We Shoot:

Fall Semester: Monthly themed shoots, competitions, and archery games that blend fun, form, and friendly rivalry.

Spring Semester: Bi-weekly Wednesday practices focused on technique and tournament prep. In the spring, we’ll hit the road and compete in the Southern Arizona Triple Crown Tournament — a multi-location 3-D archery series that challenges and inspires every archer.

What We Require:

Required Equipment: All participants will need their own archery gear, including a compound bow, quiver, arrows, release, and other personal essentials. Not sure where to start? Coach Jimmy is more than happy to help guide you through what to buy and where — we’ve got great relationships with local archery shops who will get you set up right.

Parent Participation: Encouraged! Many parents shoot alongside their kids and compete against each other — because learning (and occasionally missing targets) is better when done together.

More Than a Bullseye: Life Lessons from the Line

Archery isn’t just about hitting a target — it’s about shaping hearts and habits:

Perseverance:

You will miss. And then you’ll get back up and nock another arrow.

Focus & Patience:

No shortcuts to the target. Only practice, breath control, and self-discipline.

Confidence: Watching a student finally hit their mark (and glow with joy) is pure magic.

Responsibility & Respect: Archery teaches respect for tools, timing, and teammates.

Community: There’s nothing like the bond of families cheering one another on, side by side on the range.

Raising Arrows

We believe that children are not just our legacy, but His — “like arrows in the hand of a warrior” (Psalm 127:4). HUG Archery exists to help train those arrows — with skill, purpose, and godly character — to fly straight and far into the world He’s calling them toward.

So whether you’re a seasoned shooter or still figuring out which end of the bow is up, we welcome you. Come grow with us, learn with us, and help us continue building something truly special.

We aim for more than accuracy — we aim for eternity.
